# Chapter 35: The World in the Dream (V)
Qi An glanced at Caini's vivid expression, keeping silent as he listened quietly to the boy's deliberately lowered voice. Having run back specifically to deliver this news, his lips were somewhat dry, his tone carrying a hint of breathlessness, though his eyes were bright and shining.
One could well imagine how shocking the contents of the letter were. Indeed, it was truly something capable of causing tremendous upheaval.
"It seems they truly possess divine power. According to the letter, someone from that tribe was seriously injured while out hunting. Despite emergency treatment and being hastily carried back by his tribesmen, neither the physician's treatment nor the tribe's priest's healing arts could heal his wounds. They all concluded that the male wouldn't survive, yet one of those people healed him."
Caini's words paused, the ears atop his head twitching slightly. "Using a miraculous power. It was as if a flash of white light suddenly appeared, and then that person's wounds receded and he was jumping around lively. Moreover, those people also said that our Beast God has already been corrupted by the Evil God."
"How is that possible?" As he said this, Caini quickly let out a cold snort, speaking with indignation as if puffing up with anger. "If you ask me, they've definitely been bewitched by those outsiders. Not only did they fail to capture them, but they're treating them well and serving them good food. They said they'll bring them to our tribe tomorrow to discuss the matter."
Caini's tone grew heavier. "An'an, do you think there's any need for discussion? This is obvious! They appeared strangely out of nowhere, and the Beast God declared them followers of the Evil God—hasn't that already settled things? Moreover, everyone knows that there are only two gods on this entire continent after being in the beast world this long."
"I really don't know how they have the nerve to turn around and bite the Beast God. If the Beast God truly changed, wouldn't our High Priest have noticed?" Seemingly emboldened by having reason on his side, the boy's words grew increasingly confident. "And that tribe too—acting so devout in their faith toward the Beast God all this time, and now they're so easily swayed by this."
Qi An waited until Caini finished before asking a question. "You said they'll arrive at our tribe tomorrow?"
"That's right, practically rushing over. I really don't understand why they're in such a hurry. Don't they know the sooner they get here, the sooner they'll be exposed?" This remark stirred up some emotion in the boy again. The boy nodded, then clenched his small fist tightly. "When they arrive tomorrow, I will definitely expose their little tricks!"
[Is this about Zhang Zhaoqi and the others?] The system's voice sounded.
[En.] Qi An responded to it, his voice growing somewhat cold. [Most likely, and this time our other two teammates might not be simple.]
They had chosen the second method first.
According to what Caini said, the people of that tribe actually already believed in the outsiders' divine identity. The cat-eared boy's words certainly differed from what the letter actually stated, but based on Caini's current level of anger, one could judge that this letter was likely written in a way that subtly sided with Zhang Zhaoqi and the others.
But to achieve this was extremely difficult.
After they first descended into this world, they were labeled as outsiders, yet they didn't place themselves in a dangerous situation. Instead, they quickly found an identity that made it impossible for all beastmen to act rashly against them.
They claimed to be gods.
If the second hint was correct, as long as they could get more people to trust them, they could complete the task with high probability.
Disagreements would arise between those who believed in them and those who believed in the Beast God. Combined with the superstitious nature of the beast world and the matter of the Evil God's mischief, as long as both sides insisted that the other was connected to the Evil God, then with just a little push, the beast world would surely descend into chaos.
Something suddenly flashed through his mind. Qi An suddenly called out to Caini, who was about to leave. "Was there anything strange that happened during this sparring competition?"
"No, nothing strange. What could possibly be strange? It was just those beastmen competing in martial arts. The only strange thing is..." Caini answered dismissively at first, then, recalling something, turned around with a furrowed brow. "Are you roundaboutly asking about Evan? Right, you like him."
A flush of pink swiftly passed across the boy's milky-white face, like being caught in a moment of vulnerability as he lowered his head.
The reproach Caini was about to blurt out immediately changed because of this gesture. He opened his mouth, then finally said with some resignation, "He won the championship. Though it really was strange that he would win this time."
"Based on his usual strength, he should have been eliminated early on. I was so focused on thinking about that letter that I didn't notice this problem..." Caini's tone also became somewhat confused, but when he saw that the boy before him seemed to be contemplating something, his manner changed. "But even so, he still doesn't deserve you!"
Qi An didn't look up, merely saying as if changing the subject, "No, I was just asking casually."
Looking at the hair whorl revealed by the boy's lowered head, Caini felt that the other party's answer was particularly perfunctory, but可恶的是 he found himself completely unable to speak harshly.
Although Qi An had always been subtly doted on by the other tribesmen, with no one willing to be harsh with him except Evan, Caini considered himself still needing to be a good friend, so he would sometimes say a few words to him for various reasons.
But lately he had discovered that he had become like the other beastmen now.
Completely unable to be harsh.
Forget it, forget it.
At an angle where Qi An couldn't see, Caini gritted his teeth. If he really couldn't help liking him this much, he would just drag that Evan guy back, and let the males in the tribe teach him a proper lesson—let him understand what it means for a wife to obey her husband.
Whether busy or idle, a day always passes quietly. Lying on the soft bed, Qi An didn't immediately sink into sleep. Instead, he lazily reflected on the events that had transpired in this world.
The night was very still. To avoid catching cold from the night wind, ever since coming to this world, someone would come to check whether his doors and windows were securely shut before bed each night. Moreover, the windows weren't modern transparent glass but made of paper, so not much light could pass through.
Before his eyes was a dim expanse, and in his ears only the rustling sound of the night wind. This almost perfectly silent environment was truly quite comforting.
Qi An closed his eyes, listening to the sounds around him as he turned over.
His entire life, his sleep had always been light—a temperament formed over many years. Yet as he reviewed everything that had happened since arriving in this world, he still felt no drowsiness. Instead, a strange sensation suddenly came over him.
Qi An had always trusted his instincts. So in this sleeping state, he opened his eyes and sat up.
The only faint light in the room allowed one to barely make out the shapes of various objects. Qi An glanced around casually before looking toward the window.
[System, do you feel anything wrong?]
[Nothing, actually.] The system came online immediately and said, [It's very quiet, calm and peaceful, no miscellaneous sounds either.]
Qi An pondered silently, sitting in a daze for a while longer. Still detecting no strange sounds, he lay back down, murmuring, "Yes, very quiet."
"Very quiet." Qi An's body tensed. He sat back up and walked barefoot directly toward the window. "Indeed, too quiet."
Except for the sound of wind, there was absolutely no other sound. The beast world was abundant with animals, so at night there would be various chirping and calls. Yet at this particular moment, even the crickets' daily固定的 chirping had disappeared.
Tonight, not a single animal showed any signs of activity.
—As if sensing some dangerous presence, they had deliberately hidden themselves.
Because of the paper barrier, the things outside were somewhat indistinct. Qi An drew closer, yet felt that strange sensation in his heart grow even stronger. Squinting his eyes to look outside the window, he seemed to see countless fleeting shadows passing by in the distance.
Just shadows—shadows that one's mind couldn't even retain the shape of, flashing past too quickly to catch.
Qi An rubbed his eyes, thought for a moment, then licked his finger and poked a hole through the paper.
With the admission of light, his vision cleared. Qi An saw... a pair of eerie green eyes.
Qi An licked his dry lips. When he looked again carefully, he found all those eyes had vanished.
Like an illusion.
Qi An stood at the window, gazing at the now seemingly ordinary night scenery. After a pause, he lifted the window completely open. The cool night wind drifted into the room. Qi An stood there for a while, and only when nothing unusual occurred did he return to the bed.
Those eyes definitely weren't human—they belonged to some kind of beast.
After the tribe was established, to prevent harm to the亚雌 here, regular patrols were conducted around the tribe each night. The only animals that remained inside were also confirmed to be harmless. Therefore, these beasts didn't come from outside but from within the tribe itself.
The only possibility was those beastmen currently in a state of regression.
And the fact that he had been able to meet their gazes meant they were watching the room where he was—were they watching from the start, or only when he approached the window?
Qi An's expression grew somewhat grave.
Tomorrow, perhaps chaos would truly begin within the tribe.
