Chapter 77: Horror Livestream (14)
"What did you want to tell me?" Qi An's voice was always listless, drifting轻飘, as if it carried no weight at all. One might even accidentally overlook what he said. Yet Ke Han, who had still been walking, stopped in his tracks the moment he finished speaking.
"An'an, are you really not going to give me a chance?" The man adjusted his glasses, the cold gleam on the lenses cutting across his pitch-black pupils.
"I..." The thin少年 seemed to mutter helplessly, until Ke Han's gaze grew increasingly deeper, before finally speaking the words that followed, "I don't..."
"I came here to tell you something." Ke Han interrupted him. The man flashed another gentle smile, as if completely unconcerned with what answer Qi An might have given before. "When this livestream started recording, I actually began paying attention. Besides being lucky enough to see you, An'an, I also discovered something."
Ke Han took off his coat and draped it naturally over Qi An's shoulders. His smile grew more pronounced. "The premise of this variety show is to find the truth behind the case the production team set up. I didn't notice it at first, only felt it was somewhat familiar, but... I suddenly realized that this case is extremely similar to one I saw in the newspaper before."
"A real case published in the newspaper?" Qi An's gaze lingered for a moment on the coat draped over him.
"Yes, a real case." Ke Han nodded. "It was a dismemberment case."
The man continued smiling gently, his gaze toward Qi An as if looking upon the one he cherished, his eyes filled with undisguised deep affection. "The newspaper published a photo of the victim. He looked like a mixed-race person, blonde hair and blue eyes, with a somewhat scholarly yet villainous appearance...嗯, he was a bit like the person I saw when I opened the door just now."
"I don't remember the specific details of the case. I only know that it was never solved. No one could correctly point to a particular person based on the clues left at the scene. In the end, they could only speculate about one suspect." The youth's black eyes blinked as they fixed on Ke Han, whose eyes seemed to shift slightly.
"Speculated?"
"Yes, apparently it was due to a love dispute. A girl fell in love with a male teacher her father had hired, but her obsession couldn't be reciprocated. Because the teacher already had a wife, thus, blinded by love and jealousy, the girl made a decision. She... killed that wife."
Qi An narrowed his eyes as he watched the smiling Ke Han, and couldn't help but furrow his brow.
"The male teacher was a very gentle person. His life had no blemishes, he hadn't offended anyone, only the girl." Ke Han seemed to smile until he was tired, pursing his lips. But Qi An always felt something was off.
"Is that the only reason?"
"Of course not, there seemed to be some coincidences as well." Ke Han seemed troubled as he patted his head, then eventually shook it. "But I don't remember."
Ke Han's expression betrayed no clues. Qi An lowered his eyes, asking as if confused, "But I haven't found any leads related to these things you're mentioning..."
"It's not these things that gave me the impression." Ke Han smiled, adjusting the tie he had fastened. "It's this room. The newspaper published photos of the crime scene. This room is exactly the same as what I remember from the photographs. Its architectural style is unlike any I've seen before, so I was deeply impressed by it."
Just as Qi An was about to nod, suddenly, his eyes as he looked behind Ke Han changed.
Behind Ke Han, a scene appeared.
It was the view inside a room.
This room was very similar to the one he had just entered.
He first saw the girl who had been holding the large knife. Her makeup wasn't as heavily applied as before; instead, it was quite light, just like in the photographs.
Before her lay a fallen corpse. This corpse was also very familiar to Qi An—it was Wen Weichi.
The scene's background seemed to be nighttime. A dim light bulb hung from the ceiling.
This faint light fell upon the large knife in the girl's hands, refracting onto her face. On her dark features, suddenly a spot lit up. Qi An could see the girl holding the raised knife flash an extremely brilliant smile.
"They were right. To love someone, you must possess all of them. And you must never give them any chance to leave."
The girl's smile was pathological and obsessed. She swung the knife down violently. The quickly slicing blade left a shadow in the air, but just as it was about to touch the man's corpse, the girl's smile suddenly froze. She seemed to begin crying, her voice mournful and desperate.
"Why, why..."
She cried sorrowfully, but her hand movements became increasingly gentle. Qi An watched her use the knife to cut the man's corpse into pieces.
With each cut, the girl measured carefully.
She cut every piece to the exact same size.
Then...
Qi An watched the girl take out a pot, placing everything inside, and began to boil it.
"I've finally possessed you, completely possessed you..." The girl seemed to be chewing on something. Her expression was sorrowful, but the smile at the corner of her mouth grew wider and wider.
A crystal tear rolled down from the corner of the girl's eye. She suddenly wailed in pain. "I've finally possessed you..."
The pot that had just boiled meat was kicked to the floor, milky broth splattering everywhere. The girl collapsed to the ground in a daze, with an enormous smile hanging at the corner of her mouth while tears streamed down unceasingly.
This was... a reenactment?
Qi An paused. He contemplated this scene for a while. But when his gaze inadvertently swept across a certain direction, his eyes changed once more. He saw a little boy standing in the corner.
The little boy had an expressionless face, coldly watching all of this.
Suddenly, he turned his head. His pitch-black eyes met Qi An's.
